Time Crystals: emergences in the cracks of the present

In the most varied fields, a dispute is going on in our planet: our definition of future from an overly complex present.
Apparently we have been, for some time now, stuck to an essentially concrete present that demands too much from us, in which all days are equal. A present stuck to the future, invariant in its passage, repeating the cycles of reality. In the midst of the constant issues of this eternal “now”, we develop our best technologies, put into question in an overwhelming way by the simplest of biological structures.
Therefore, on the one hand, we live the development of countless innovations on the most varied fronts and challenges, but, on the other hand, we have a hard time to understand ourselves as humans and as a society, in our true challenge as a global community. We are then faced by the question of whether we must go on with the same social, economic, political, ecologic and cultural relations or use our creative and adaptive skills toward a new arrangement and a new way to understand the role we must play.
In moments of instability, we must turn our attention to artists and scientists in the full power of their creations. Like a “time crystal” from theoretical Physics, their proposals and projects are able to crack the symmetries between past, present and future. The future is, then, seen not only as the result of a present that will come to pass, but rather as something that guides us from afar, unbalancing routines, dwelling in our imagination and attracting the forces of human desire towards that which it intends to be.
We need to encourage the conjunctions between the arts, science and technology, the protagonists as far as collecting, monitoring and analyzing data are concerned, looking for a deeper understanding that may guide us. Observing such creations beyond the boundaries of the context in which they were produced, toward the cracks that they produce and that are present here and now. This is up to us to discuss the perplexed conditions of our present.
Science Awareness 2020 is a public notice for those who are concerned about questions, thoughts and possible artistic and scientific essays from a purposeful present where human conditions are up to the challenges to be faced. As our society is commanded to think about a global agenda for the future, we reinforce here the need for a collective awareness to be activated in the present. This is about reconstructing ourselves with respect to our purpose as humanity and collectivity, having the arts and science as legitimate fields for that movement.
