TASTE

Martyn Blundell's video work explores processes of ordering and collation; the notion of narrative taxonomies. This work has taken the form of juxtapositions of images, text, sound and spoken phrases. These videos, in relationship with the positioning and context in which the works are experienced, generate narratives made through acts of association and combination.
The fusion of images and words, written and spoken, and sound, suggest a disruption of sequence, prompting questions about the relationship between the place and time in which they occur. During this process, significance is created out of the relationship between the different visual and aural elements. As the work progresses, this significance is manipulated - sabotaged or focussed during the editing process by allowing certain combinations to stay while others are edited out. Meaning is manipulated through acts of acceptance and deletion, rather than planned intention.

space - navigation - the ordering of relationships, spatial, the relocation of place, emotion, sensation - where is this in relation to that?
time - memory - the ordering of experience, temporal, the recollection of events, emotion, sensation - when was that in relation to this?
