HEARING

One does not simply exist as other/minority, the individual becomes other. [S]he is created.
My work indulges in both the analogies of the liminal transition as well as the realistic displacement, prejudices and discriminations associated with minority identity and otherness.
BIO:
Alex Berry is a writer and conceptual artist based in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a graduate of Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, holding a B.A. in Journalism with a focus in creative nonfiction. Coming from a multi-cultural background, she directed most of her writing on culture and human interest stories which translated into a conceptual art interest in liminality, marginalized society and social intervention. She has fused experimental journalistic practices and performance art as a recent M.F.A. Sculpture graduate from The Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta. Currently, she is focused on investigative art practices as a means to actively encourage alternative education.
Her writing has been published in the Red and Black Newspaper, Infusion Magazine, Examiner.com, Atlanta INtown Paper, and in Quilt Stories—a collaborative project with the NAMES Project Foundation and AIDS Memorial Quilt. She has had a reading at the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) and has shown her work at galleries around Atlanta including whitespec at whitespace gallery, Sycamore Place Gallery, Cherrylion Studios, and Mason Murer Fine Art. She has also done live performances at the Brooklyn International Performance Art Festival, at the Raghurajpur International Art and Culture Exchange (RIACE) in Orissa, India and a street intervention piece in West Africa.
